Water pollution the in the Great Lakes has been going on for many years and has been a big issue, “Lake Erie was even pronounced ‘dead’ for a time during the 1960s because of an overload of phosphorus from municipal waste” (Canadian Geographic). Recently there have been different projects to raise awareness and to help stop and repair damage caused by the pollution. “In the 1960s, an environmental movement began to emerge that sought to stem the tide of pollutants flowing into the planet's ecosystems. Out of this movement came events like Earth Day, and legislative victories like the Clean Air Act (1970) and the Clean Water Act (1972).” This issue has been going on for many years and affects many different things like land, air, plants, animals, and the climate.
